Stage 04 – From Buggerru to Portixeddu

This is a relatively short stage, which allows you to spend the first part of the day discovering some of the most important sites connected with the mining history of Buggerru.

Before setting off, it is well worth visiting some of the town’s key landmarks:

• the Henry Gallery (which you can visit in the morning before continuing your journey);
• the monument dedicated to the miners who died in the massacre of 1904;
• the Mining Museum.
  
  

The stage begins with a fairly steep uphill section, before opening onto beautiful views over the Gulf of Leone, particularly impressive along the road leading towards the Nanni Frau mine.

The route then continues towards the extraordinary Portixeddu dune system, one of the most distinctive landscape features of the area.
Once you reach the highest part of the route, it is important to take particular care on the downhill section, as some stretches can be slippery.
For this reason, proper trekking shoes with good grip are strongly recommended.

WARNING: the availability of services in Portixeddu varies considerably depending on the season.

During the summer months, beach kiosks and restaurants are generally open. In most cases, it is still possible to find some businesses open until October, while in the following months the availability of restaurants, kiosks or grocery shops cannot be guaranteed.
We therefore recommend that you set off with enough food and water, especially during the low season.
