Stage 01 – From Iglesias to Nebida

From the very first stage, we walk on Italy’s oldest limestone-dolomite rocks, above vast deposits of lead, zinc, and silver that for centuries were the focus of intense mining activity. Right away, we immerse ourselves in the rich cultural, environmental, and religious heritage of Sardinia.

From the medieval city of Iglesias to the village of Nebida, we encounter chapels, churches, and places of worship dedicated to the patron saint of miners.

Passing through the sanctuary of the Madonna del Buon Cammino gives this first day a particular spiritual significance.

The stage is of moderate difficulty, not so much due to its length, but because of two uphill stretches that must be overcome in the first part of the route to reach Buon Cammino Hill (339 m a.s.l.) and the Cungiaus excavations (323 m a.s.l.).
