STAGE 13 DESCRIPTION:

After admiring the view of the open sea, which can be appreciated from the arrival point of this route, we retrace the road to return to Loc. Gioia where we rejoin the Stage.

This route does not have any particular gradients except for the stretch that remains approximately 1 km from the parking area for Cala Fico up to the junction for Capo Becco, where the average gradient is 2.8%.

Having resumed the route of the Stage at the locality of Gioia, we continue towards Carloforte, arriving in the southernmost area of the Saline after passing the two archaeological sites of the Pyramid (of Nuragic origin) and the Nuraghe Laveria where the nuraghe's keep is partially integrated with the ruined structures of the old washhouse.

Near the Saline, turning left allows you to shorten the route and immediately return to Carloforte from the Salina route. Turning right allows you to continue south-west to intersect the SP 03 and reach La Caletta beach.

The route then continues along the roads that lead to the various beaches, coves and cliffs, passing by the panoramic viewpoint of Cala Mezzaluna, the cliff of Punta delle Colonne, La Bobba beach, Guidi beach, Punta Nera beach, Girin beach and returning to the Saline area via Giunco beach.

After passing the cemetery and following the asphalt road that runs along the north-western part of the salt pans, you reach the entrance to the trail inside the outer embankment of the salt pans. Once you have completed this path, you arrive directly at the southern part of the port near the town center.

From here you can turn left and proceed towards the Tower of San Vittorio, which houses a small but fascinating archaeological museum of the island.

After visiting the museum (after checking the opening times and making a reservation), you return to the port and return to the ferry departure dock.

For those wishing to visit Carloforte, it is worth pointing out that it is a Ligurian linguistic island as the island of San Pietro was colonized, after centuries of abandonment, in 1738 by Genoese from Tabarka, an island today connected to the Tunisian coast.

The urban fabric, characterised by the typical Genoese alleyways, is much appreciated by tourists who, along these narrow streets, find various refreshment points where they can enjoy fish-based dishes, especially tuna.

At the port you can admire the particular structure of the Cavallera Theatre, while in the centre you can visit the ethnographic museum of the Casa del Duca, where a good part of the exhibition is dedicated to the tradition linked to tuna fishing (of particular value in these waters).

In the highest part of the town, the city walls and the Lion's Gate are still clearly visible. After a tour of Carloforte, which is best appreciated on foot, you can board the boat back to Portoscuso.
