Pozzo Gal Mining Site - Ingurtosu Mine

At the entrance of the Pozzo Gal Mining Site, you immediately face an impressive mining shaft, nearly 205 meters deep vertically and 160 meters diagonally: a true gateway to the underground. The site is named after Paul Gal, a manager of the Pennaroya group, active around 1920 in managing the Gennamari and Ingurtosu mines. Opened in 1923, inside the oldest Harold Site, Pozzo Gal was built for exploiting the Brassey vein, one of the most important in Sardinia for extracting silver-bearing galena. The Mining Site hosts a Multimedia Museum, mineral collections, photographic exhibitions, a display of chemical laboratory objects, and a rich archive of books and historical magazines related to the mining and scientific activity of the area, an exhibition on mining sports, and an Entomological Exhibition. Currently, the complex is managed by the CEAS of Ingurtosu, which takes care of it and preserves its historical memory through various activities carried out in the educational classroom. In various areas of the square, permanent objects and equipment have been arranged that provide a backdrop to the life and tasks of the miners, and with the use of mannequins dressed in reproductions of period work clothes, mining work scenes have been recreated, accompanied by panels containing descriptions in Italian and English of the equipment and related processes. Inside the multimedia museum, there is also the possibility to use a virtual reality headset, allowing visitors to enter a special simulation where they can experience the mining reality of the past. Moving through the scene offers an extremely engaging and immersive 360° experience. The site also features a path with QR codes that allow reading descriptions of the various environments, tools present, and mining history in several languages (English, German, French), along with various illustrative panels in Italian and English.
