Henry Gallery

The Henry Gallery is undoubtedly the most important work of the great Pranu Sartu mine. Dug along the spectacular rocky Iglesiente coast, it dates back to 1865 and is accessed from the entrance just above Buggerru. Located 50 meters above sea level, above the town of Buggerru, it crosses the Planu Sartu plateau for about a kilometer. This tunnel carved into the hard rock is imposing: its dimensions were determined by the use, back in 1892, of a steam locomotive. This ingenious system, thanks to a futuristic railway network, quickly replaced the slow and costly transport with mules and other pack animals.
