Pani Loriga Archaeological Site

Located 2 km from the municipality of Santadi, the vast hill of Pani Loriga, covered with centuries-old olive trees, provides a fundamental contribution to the reconstruction of ancient human settlement in the Sulcis, thanks to a millennia-long occupation documented by Neolithic, Nuragic, Phoenician, and Punic archaeological evidence, up to the occasional Roman and early medieval attestations.

The site, known both for its archaeological aspects and for its extraordinarily well-preserved environmental context, allows visitors to trace approximately 6,000 years of territory's history in a scenic landscape, from the Neolithic necropolis with "Domus de janas" to the Nuraghe Diana on the plateau's summit, and continuing to the more than 150 Phoenician burials investigated so far. Furthermore, the Punic period, with its hypogeic necropolis but especially its urban architecture, where the absence of later building overlays has exceptionally preserved the stone structures of a city that dominated the hinterland and the sea.

Pani Loriga is a necessary stop for the pilgrims fascinated by the nature and the archaeology of the Sulcis.
