The Ethnographic Museum “Sa Domu Antiga” is housed in a building located in the center of the municipality of Santadi.
Built in the early years of the twentieth century, it encompasses the stylistic and technical construction traditions of the era and reflects the appearance of the traditional peasant house of Basso Sulcis. The house museum was originally built for residential use. It features a large courtyard and is divided into several spaces related to daytime and nighttime life. The kitchen, the living and the bedrooms take the visitor back to a distant time and effectively depict the lifestyle of the period and the types of objects that were commonly found in a home. At the entrance, a large loom takes center stage along with other hand-spinning tools; in the kitchen, one can linger over a vast number of objects used for the preparation and preservation of food. The bedrooms, meticulously reconstructed, tell the story of an intimate life far from embellishments and devoted to functionality. In the "lollas" (reed roofing canopies), there are various exhibition sections dedicated to baking, grain processing, agricultural activities, and the craftsmanship of blacksmiths and carpenters, while a small space adjacent to the house hosts the thematic wine path. Sa Domu Antiga is a charming stop for pilgrims wishing to discover lifestyles that, in part, still exist in the rural areas of southern Sardinia.
