The archaeological site of Monte Sirai, near Carbonia, is an important settlement founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC and later occupied by the Carthaginians. It stands on a strategic hill overlooking the Sulcis territory. The site preserves remains of the settlement, the tofet, the necropolis, and the fortifications, offering a fundamental testimony of the Phoenician-Punic presence in Sardinia and the relations with the local populations. Monte Sirai is particularly evocative for its panoramic position on a hill dominating the Sulcis landscape, between sea and hills. Walking among the ruins of the ancient Phoenician-Punic city, with houses, streets, the tofet, and the necropolis still clearly visible, allows one to clearly perceive the structure of the settlement. The silence, the scents of the Mediterranean scrub, and the intense sunlight make the experience immersive, evoking daily life from over two thousand years ago.
