Situated about two kilometres from the centre of Santadi, the hill of Pani Loriga, covered with centuries-old wild olive trees, holds some 6,000 years of the history of the Basso Sulcis. With your guide you will follow the traces of those who lived here, from the Neolithic to the Phoenician-Punic age by way of the Nuragic period, up to rarer evidence from Roman and early medieval times.
During the outdoor route you will come across the signs of the different periods: from the Neolithic necropolis of domus de janas to the Diana nuraghe, standing at the top of the plateau, and on to the Phoenician necropolis, where more than 150 burials have been investigated so far.
You will then see the remains of the Phoenician-Punic urban settlement (7th–4th century BC), where the absence of later building on top of it has preserved in exceptional condition the walls of the ancient city, which dominated the hinterland and the sea.
If you would like to find out more about the Phoenician and Punic finds from the hill, displayed in the Museo Civico Archeologico of Santadi, you can buy the combined ticket for €5 for Mìnera Card holders, which includes the guided visit of the Pani Loriga archaeological area, the Museo Civico Archeologico and the Museo Etnografico.
